Happy Birthday Kaia!

Today is my niece's 5th birthday! We had presents, we had cake, we had fun! (until the sugar wore off and all HELL broke loose... ever seen a 5 year old come down from a sugar high?) Trust me, if you ever do...RUN THE OTHER WAY !! :)

Oh ya, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost the Grey Cup... I'm glad they made it there in the first place, but it just goes to showyou: You can't have your cake and eat it too! :(

I Heart My Purdy Lady

Today I had the honor of doing a portrait session with my better half, Grit Becker. We had so much fun getting her all done up and then running around the house finding places to photograph. I love you baby! :)

1) Blog Goes Live! 2) Know your Photographer!

Hey everyone! I'm stoked to say that the Official Michael Wachniak Photographer blog is now open for business (and pleasure)!

I am very excited and I have so many things to share, and I can't wait to start filling this place up with random nonsense about me, and of course some business related stuff too! =)

One of the things I want to mention first off is that Photographers do not talk about themselves as much as they should. Wedding Photographers for example, are part of the most important day of several people's lives, and if the Bride and Groom (and the rest of the attendees) are not 110% comfortable with the Photographer, not only will there be a certain 'wisp of tension' in the air during the day but the photos will not turn out as REAL and MAGICAL as everyone hopes them to be. Your Wedding Photographer should be someone you can honestly call a Friend, there is a lot of trust put into the relationship of a Photographer and their clients. The Wedding Day should be filled with thoughts of "My wife looks like a Princess in her dress" and "I am SO LUCKY to be marrying him", instead of "Did I hire the right Photographer?"... I have thought about this topic for quite some time, and I think the strongest way to form a bond with future/potential clients is to increase the amount of information of "ME" people can find online :). It sounds cocky in a way, but think of it honestly: If you saw 2 photographer websites, and both had equal talent at taking photographs... but one photographer has a page where he/she tells how they got into photography and what their other interestes are, and has a few photos of them either working or posing or just smiling and looking generally happy...and the other photographer has no photos, no stories, no nothing... just pictures and a phone number or email. I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone would contact the photographer they could read up on and familiarize themselves with. Are you hiring a photographer or a website?

I love it when I meet up with couples to discuss their upcoming wedding! The bride will be glowing and talking about how her flowers will be and who she has as her bridesmaids, and the groom will usually say something like "I don't care what happens as long as everyone is happy" or something manly like that, but you can see he has a little sparkle in his eye too lol. Usually by the end of the meeting I am so stoked about being a part of their wedding that I want to run out right away and start snappin photos for their engagement session! Can you imagine being a part of several of these days every year!?? What a life I have! :)
